Totality of the 2017 Great American Eclipse. It is the moment we’ve all been waiting and working toward. In order to assure those attending the Total Eclipse Block Party have the best view of Totality, the Town of Franklin will block thru traffic on Main Street from 2:30pm to 2:45pm. We then invite you to walk out into the street for this spectacular moment. At the moment of totality, a siren will sound. This will signify it is safe to remove your viewing glasses. After 2 minutes 30 seconds the siren will sound again for you to again put on your eye protection. Please begin to leave the street after totality so we may allow traffic again to flow on Main Street.

Join the Town of Franklin North Caorlina for our Solar Eclipse Block Party from 1:00pm to 6:00pm in Downtown Franklin! We have many activities planned for the afternoon and all are FREE of charge. The full schedule of events as well as other pertinent information is listed below.
Only a small portion of North Carolina lies within the totality swath of the 2017 Solar Eclipse and Franklin, NC is right in the center of it all. The total solar eclipse arrives in Franklin at 2:35pm on Monday, August 21, 2017. The duration of the solar eclipse will be two minutes and 30 seconds. The partial phase begins at 1:06pm and following totality will continue until approximately 4:01pm.

3:00pm Concert featuring Last Five Standing

Great music will be part of Franklin, NC's Solar Eclipse Block Party - Last Five Standing, one of Atlanta's favorite rock cover bands will be performing a post-total eclipse concert at 3:00pm at the Gazebo on the Square. Last Five Standing is comprised of seasoned musicians with decades of combined professional experience. Their performances are all about high-energy entertainment as they play your favorite tunes spanning from Classic Rock, MTV era 80s music, to current, upbeat Top 40 hit selections.

NEW! EXPANDED KIDS ZONE Open From 10:00am to 4:00pm

The Town of Franklin has expanded the Kids Zone to include several inflatable attractions. Kids get ready for some slip n' sliding fun as we'll have an 18' tall wet slipping slide located in Dowtown Franklin, NC on Iotla Street. Sure to cool you off on a hot summer day and provide for some great fun. Also, there will be a bouncy house, another huge slide and more.... all during Franklin's Total Solar Eclipse Block Party on Monday, August 21st from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in Downtown, Franklin, North Carolina

The Town of Franklin will give the first 2,000 people free 2017 Solar Eclipse Viewing Glasses. These glasses are certified safe for the The Sure, Safe Way to "Eye The Sky” during the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Franklin, NC. The first 1,000 pairs are uniquely branded for Franklin, North Carolina. The second 1,000 pairs are general branding for the eclipse to mark the event and date. The giveaway begins at 1:00pm and glasses will be available at both the information booth and Eclipse Viewing Station.

Our safe solar eclipse glasses that filter out 100 percent of the ultraviolet & infrared rays & 99.99 percent of intense visible light are made with 2 mil scratch resistant silver/black polymer. With an optical density of 5 or greater. These ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses are independently tested for safe solar viewing of all phases of the eclipse creating sharp, natural orange colors. The Town of Franklin, NC will provide viewing of NASA's Eclipse Live Stream in the Board Room on the lower level of Town Hall. The broadcast starts at 12 noon EDT.  It connects with many of the NASA broadcasts distributed across the country. The Board Room has limited seating and seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Main Street WILL BE OPEN to traffic and parking. Only a small portion of Iotla Street (see map) will be closed for the event. This area will host the Kid's Zone, Eclipse Concert and Information Booth. All other streets will be open.

There are many parking areas in Downtown Franklin and we suggest you arrive early to ensure a space.
